Rohirrim and other Fantasy Figures

 These guys are left over from last years Analog Hobbies Painting challenge it took me a while to get to them since life has been busy and I didn't have any prospect of using them. The Rohirrim are nice figures from Games Workshop.  

They came out a reasonably good table top quality as far as the paint job goes.. 

Next we have a Dwarf from Reaper. 

A solid figure the close up shows a number of bare spots I will have to touch up (or not as they aren't too visible in real life).

The red cloak inspired by Balin from the Hobbit. 

He'll be handy for my Frostgrave stable for games with the kids. 

Another Reaper bones figure also intended to flesh out my Frostgrave stable and possibly some other games. 

Not my best work but I am glad to have them finished as I get ready for the next Analog Hobbies Painting Challenge. 

Ayercon Frostgave

Last Sunday I was thrilled to run a lite version of Frostgave with local Cub Scouts.  Dave Valintine ran Devil in the wilderness, Bill Greenwald ran an RPG called The Loop (hope I got that right) and my new friend Hunter Theon(our daughters are besties) rand D&D.

My first game included two crossbow men who were deadly shots except when facing this bear

We also saw my gravegolum make an appearance and a team of players take him down. While another player barely avoided possession by demonic forces

The second game has only two players and they kept getting mixed up in numerous battles. Including a wizard who wanted to be left alone.

One player lost both his characters after running from the Giant only to attack a resting undead creature he could have bypassed. Good fun all around.

Next up are two Bones Miniatures both are Female Dwarves I've dubbed them the Hammer Sisters for obvious reasons. 

I'm thinking I will use these as a Wizard and apprentice for Frostgrave they should do well for this. They would naturally be enchanters with a band of dwarven warriors and constructs to smash bad guys and grab treasure. 

Fully armored and dule wielding hammers this is a lady the kicks buts and takes names on top of that she has an anvil in back pack and some strange aperatus that must be used for magic of some kind. 

This lady looks a bit like a cross between a black smith and a lady who want a night on the town. She'll make a great apprentice Enchanter. Points 5 points each for the 25mm figures so 10 in total. 

Lady Sarah I have some Boarder Revers I need to drop off at Russell’s Sandhill.

Ayer Con 2

 This weekend I ran a game of Frostgrave at AyerCon 2.  This is a gaming event hosted by a local Cub Scout Pack 32.  As an Eagle Scout I'm always on the look out for chances to give back to Scouting getting to run game was a bonus.  My players were quite young and so it was a challenge to keep them focused at times but they caught on to the spirit of the game very quickly even if mechanics were a little harder to grasp.

 Still we all had a good time as you can see two of the war bands well engaged with the Lich Lord and several of his Frost Knights.  I'm going to simplify the game a little more for Ayer Con 3 or 4 (if I can't make 3) and maybe see about getting some other GMs to come along.

 My Elsa figure painted a few years ago got used in a D&D grand battle where she played the roll of the big bad (with Let it Go playing in the background)

Frosgtrave Wizard and Golem

First up we have the Frostgrave Siglaist wizard I did the Aprentice some time ago (actuly this lady has been done for  a long time. but wasn't properly bassed for display.  She's not may favorite of my character form the serise but she'll do.

I'm not entierly pleased with how the head dress cam out.

One of my favorite pices form Bones III.  The Grave golem.

These "wings" were the bane of my existince while painting them as I tried to make them look right.  Its a great piece and I'm looking forward to getting it on the table some tim.

The Lady and the Dragon

Painting time has been pretty limed but I have managed to finish up these two.

First up is the Sigalist aprentice from North Star that I got in one of the Nick Starters  

I'm a huge fan of this figure its simple and practial and I tried to paint it in a similar fasion. The Sigalist wizard has too many accesories... but this woman is practicaly dressed for exploring frosgrave.

I went with a light yellow robe with red trim, the hair coving cloth is a smimple buff color.  I'm looking forward to make it

My Bones III Dragon is also "done" now that I see it in a picture I think I need to work on the inside side fo the mouth...

I did the body in various sades of blue then used a sparkling dark blue and silver embosing powder mixed with water and glue to add depth and make him shiny.

I'm not 100% thrilled with the wings but they aren't bad.  The white horns realy pop espcialy on the head.

I'm planning to use him in Dragon Rampant games.

I'll probably use the elite infantry template with Flying and range attack upgrades.

This is is a grea figure and I lookforward getting him on the table.

Return to Frostgrave

So Last night I got in some gaming my opponent was Dave's son William.   He was running a Necromancer and I was appropriately playing a Thaumaturge Who looked a lot like a popular fantasy wizard. He headed out to the left..

While my apprenticed moved to the right.

Will is moving up on a token while I close in on some others...

Will is disappointed when the token turns out to be my fools gold...

He gets a bit of revenge by killing one of my halfling thieves

Next turn he gets another of my troops as he ties up my troops with his war hound.  Note a Frost Giant as appeared when I picked up a token.

His summoned creature  a "Wolf" nabs one of my

My man at arms knocks the giant back on it heals and the archer hits it as well the damage is significant but not enough to kill.

My wizard cast push but the attack roll isn't good enough to drive him back

One thief of mine wins a fight...

The other loses a fight.

My Cross bowman has manged to miss every shot each turn (5 turns in a row)

My Wizard managed to hold off the attacking "wolf"

My man at arms is down... and so I am backing away... Will is pretty gleeful at my predicament.

Then my crossbowman finally gets a hit, My wizard blows the giant back into Will's forces with a successful "push" spell.   I got away with 3 tokens Will despite his a glee a turn earlier got away with but one.  Will did a good job using his wolf and hound to tie me up and he got some great shots with bone dart. had he moved more of his soldiers up to take advantage of my soldiers being killed he might have wiped the floor with me.  Instead he counted on ranged shots and despite killing most of my soldiers I got away with the win (he's young he will learn).
