Hungarian Students Vs 3rd Armor

Since both of us had the day off I met up with Gerry Lane at the Whiz on Monday.  It was the first time I had been to the Whiz in months and I hadn't seen Gerry since Huzzah in May so it was great to reconect.
My reluctant Veteran 3rd Armor are ready to looking to move into and beyond some European Village.
Gerry and his Fearless Conscript Hungarian Students battalion are also ready to go.
Jerry sent his Tankettes (L3/35s I believe) forward for recon and the Stugs soon followed fire on my big infantry platoon didn't result in any hits
Gerry also had his Pioneer troops advance into the woods in the center to either support the armor or deny it to me depending on how things played out
My platoon of standard Sherman Tanks moved into the village and landed multiple hits on Stugs two went up in flames while the third was bailed out
Gerry failed his moral check so the crew of the third set charges and ran for the rear.
Gerry got a bit of his own back as his big AA Gun hit one of my tanks and blew it up to the cheers of the Gerry next tried to get his recon tankettes in to position to hit my mortar half tracks...
instead he found himself surrounded by Sherman tanks who eliminated the threat with a liberal dosage of 50 and 30 Caliber MG ammunition.
Gerry's attempts to kill my Jumbo with artillery failed thanks to a good armor save on my part..
but he did get of of my Easy 8 Sherman tanks.
The Tanks moved forward a bit to clear the smoke and landed multiple hits on the battery we pinned them but didn't get any kills.
I survived another bombardment and Gerry is threatening my flank with those pioneers.
Multiple tanks spray the woods and two pioneer teams die.  Gerry kills another Easy 8 and I get one of his big guns we've played about 2.5 hours and both of us have thrown some good punches Gerry has lost two platoons while I have lost none (I am down three tanks).  I have to get heading home so we decided to call it a draw I probably couldn't have shifted Gerry off his objectives but his army probably can't advance against me with both its armored elements eliminated. All in all it was a fun way to spend the day after Christmas.

Anglo-French Taining excercis: First game of 2016

I met up with Mark for the first time in a long time at the Whiz Sunday and we decided to pit our early war lists against each other. Mark was running his Early war Indians and I had my French Recon, the Mission is Hasty Attack
My boys advance in the recon phase pushing on the left most objective...
as far from the three Mathildas as possible (I have nothing that can even scratch their paint).
Turn one we are in assault rang and unleash a storm of MG and gun fire that pins but doesn't kill a single gun
My assault is less than successful with two tank bailed out (and thus destroyed) though they do leave a bit of smoke screen I can use.
Matilda and her sisters are on the way...
More troops come up... more MG and cannon fire...
We get one Boffor but lose a platoon of Panhards in the process...
and Matilda and her sisters are now in the area...
Mark is having some firepower troubles of his own...
I move troops to the right hoping I can stretch Marks defenses and maybe bring pressure on this second objective.
Infantry moves forwards hopefully they will be able to follow up the tank assault.
In go the French armor it’s a savage fight but over a several turns mark has the better of it.
With two bailed out I concede my dice were bad and I may have been to aggressive early on. This list has to win fast especially when the enemy has a platoon it can't kill. Mark also played a good game using his army well.

Panzer Lehr vs Soviet Hero Assault guns

After fairly long hiatus I made it down to the Whiz for some Flames of War. My opponent was Gerry and his Soviet Hero Assault guns list. The Mission we rolled up was Counter attack and in retrospect that is were things started going wrong.
I Started with all five of my platoons(a Panther Platoon, Panzer Grenadiers, Panzer IVs, a Puma and an Artillery platoons) platoons on the board.
I used my spear head move to get forward...
Then advance on the first turn.. I had few tartgets and got no hits...
Then the Soviet Ambushe pops up.
Gerry should have me dead to rights here...
Despite mortars and multiple shots Gerry only bailed one tank...
The Soviet Commander is luckier he gets one kill
I should now have Gerry in a tough spot but between a bombardment and 5 direct shots... I get one hit (from the bombardment on an infantry team) and no hits.
Gerry has troops on the far objective
Gerry's shooting was not as good as it could have been he got tow bails but still I have a platoon moral check to make...
I roll a 1 twice and there goes my most powerful platoon and my commanders.
and there goes my most powerful platoon and my commanders.
Still I have a shot at the other objective (or so I think) but mu shooting is terrible... and the Soviets are unpinned
My troops are under bombardment one puma is bailed out.
Gerry finally gets reinforcement three more SU-122 roll on the table..
One Panaer IV goes up in flames.
My artillery is under direct threat but can't get any hits...
It takes lots of shots but we do pin the soviets down... and push in.. I kill one soviet... then...
Fail to motivate to counter attack...  Its two turns before the objective is eavn live and I don't have anything that can hurt the SU-122s So we call the game.  I think my tactics were good but my dice were so bad it didn't matter. Gerry's list would have been really hard for me beet in this mission as I have to win quick and you can't do that when the objective doesn;t go live until turn 6

Hasty attack 99th Infantry Vs Volksgrenadier (Nuts)

Sunday I made my way to The Whiz and found I was matched up with Ted.  After a bunch of games playing Germans I was looking for ward to dusting off my US infantry.
I was rusty and about the time I finished up my deployment I realized I should have done things differently but Ted was on the board and his men were advancing fast. (Hist infantry get spearhead moves and his recon got that and its spearhead move!)
He's moving up on both wings and making good use of cover.
Ted got a good bombardment early on it kept my Long Toms more or less out of the fight for 3 turns!
Then his Assault gun armed scouts came in hard and fast.
They hit my men but didn't get any kills...
I killed several of them..
and followed up with an assault on my turn... I killed a few men...
But Ted killed most of mine..
I did get a Panzer IV assault gun with an artillery strike.
My armor using MG fire and artillery did more damage to Teds infantry but not enough... and my armor got taken out on the following turn. Neither of us really had the strength to pus forward.  I still had two Dug in platoons of infantry and 5 guns (lost one of the long toms) plus an AT unit of bazookas.  Ted had his armor but would have had a hard time getting in on the objectives unless I screwed up.
Since we were not keeping time I conceded Ted had hurt me more than I hurt him but he would probably have clocked out in a tournament.
