Wolf Hunt

Monday was a snow day and Evelyn wanted to take a look at my Wargame terrain and such and then she set up a village and picked out some figures.  We decided to play a game and she decided to play the "Big Bad Wolf" I ran the Kings Jagers .
Civilians flee down the road while mounted Jagers and hounds move to intercept the wolf. The intitial clash results in the death of one dog.
Two civilian ledies quckly fall to the wolf.
Jagers get a shot at the wolf and hit it.
More civilains are eatem and the wolf is hemmed in taking shots from my jagers
The wolf makes a break for it...
The mounted Jagers run down the Wolf but cannot hold it
The Wolf breaks away but the two laddies fend it off...
The wolf is cornned and takes it's third hit... forcing it to flee but it carries off another hound.
The wolf got six figurte the target needed for Evlyn to win but...
The wolf took 3 hits enought to drive it off so my first game with Evelyn is a draw.

Challenge X Entry #20 Fran’s Fjord; The Snow Lord's Own and HMS Unicorn (68 Points)

So as you may recall from past challenges I have an Imagi-nation called the Grand Duchy of D’Argent and their traditional foe the Draconian Empire. I like to give wargamer friends regiments in the service of the Draconian Empire.

Given the task for the location I decided to honor our fearless organizer with a regiment of his own.
The Figurers are Essex Miniatures I went with blue and white in honor of our leaders snow capped peak and blue monster manifestation.
The Flag is purely out of my head but inspired by some French and German flags of the period.
HMS Unicorn is the last of my initial purchase for Black Seas. I decided to do a Royal Navy frigate because I wanted one to add an extra dynamic to a convention game I am working on.
A convention that will probably be cancelled out of an abundance or caution to use the fashionable phrase (figures crossed this will blow over by May).
I went with buff instead of yellow for the stripe along the gun ports. I added a bit of gold-leaf showing our frigate captain was lucking in prize money or has private means.
I’m very pleased with how the ship came out. OK points. Fran’s Fjord give 30 points, the ten 15mm figures provide 20 and HMS Unicorn will provide me with another 18. That give me 68 more points for pile.
HMS Unicorn will now take me along the coast to Saunders Sand Dunes (if that’s allowed).

Fine work here Adam. I'm sure I join many Challengers in expressing sheer horror at the idea of the Snow Lord having his own Regiment of Foot to unleash upon unwary travellers, but I have no doubt the Lord himself will be thrilled!

And it has been a lot of fun watching your "Black Seas" project(s) come together so nicely. This is another great-looking ship...I wish I could offer more intelligent commentary, but I'm the age-of-sail gamer who says things like "I'll take the one with the cannons!" so I'm not much help there. But damn, it looks cool!

In terms of your Challenge Island routing proposal...I'll leave that to higher powers, but it may be that one requires a balloon ride to make the trip you propose...

That will be another 68 points for you. Here's hoping your event goes ahead...

Maker Space Game Day March 30th.

Last Saturday was the Amherst Maker Space Game day.  I got my Mother-in-Law to watch Evelyn so I was able get in a game and run a game.
I the morning I got to play a game of GQ3(corrected) run by Frank.  It was an encounter between his two favorite navies the Royal Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy cruisers who encounter each other on a sweep.  I had the IJN.
Turn one saw ranging shots and HMS Belfast landed a bulkhead hit on Noshiro putting her in serious trouble.
Turn two saw a massive exchange of Torpedoes including an extraordinary effort by Shigure landing 8 out 8 hits with her tubes.  As the smoke cleared the Royal Navy was down three Cruisers and two destroyers.  The Japanese fleet had one Destroyer setting to the bottom and serious damage done to both Agano and Noshiro (both light cruisers) and minor damage to two other Destroyers.
In the after noon I run a game with Mark and I taking command of the forces of the Grand Duchy of D'Argent attempting to relive the siege conducted by the Draconian Empire commanded by Kelly.  The Duchy's light forces striking from the woods to strike at the rear of the Besiegers had initial success but were largely check by the arrival of Imperial Grenadiers.
The more tradition relief force struck at the main body of the imperial covering force.  The battle was hard fought but the Empires force of Cavalry was not able to arrive in time.
Kelly fought a good fight given he had no one to help him watch the various sectors of the battle field. I didn't quit get the balance right but it was still an enjoyable game.  There were many other excellent games you can check out some pictures here: Maker Space Game Day 3/30/2019

Makerspace Game Day: Crossing at St Ulrich

I used the St. Ulrich scenario in the Honors of war book as a starting point but made significant changes. The Grand Duchy of D'Argent is the defender with a brigade of two infantry and one light artillery battery. They also have 3 independent units Two light infantry and one heavy artillery battery. The attackers are the Draconian Empire:  They have one independent light infantry unit, a brigade of two cavalry units and an infantry brigade of 3 regiments and a field gun.
The Chasers de Montana made quick first turn ambush before the Darconian Boarder regiment turned their flanks and drove them away from the main column.  A running battle between the two units of light troops would continue for many turns.
The main lines closed in on each other the D'Argent brigade having elected to advance forward a bit while their Jager battalion has come up on their left to slow down the enemy cavalry.
The Dragonian Cavalry quickly send the quick footed Jagers running. The manage to make it back across the river with but was a near thing.
Both lines of infantry open fire the initial exchange works to D'Argents advantage as the Sheppard regiment is hit hard by musketry and grape break for the rear.
D'Argent regiment L'Rock charged agaist the Draconian battery while Regiment Marini exchanged fire with Draconian regiment Haydenburg and Pain. Draconian hussars just fall short of catching the quick stepping Jagers D'Argent
Rock and the Artillery unit batter each other resulting in both units falling back.  The Haydenberg regiment is scattered by musketry and grape... while the Draconian cavalry cross the rive.
Both units take fire from the Jagers in passing but one of the units of Sappers working to demolish the bridge panics and runs.
Regiment Pain of Daconnia charges into regiment Marini driving it back in disorder but at the cost of its own cohesion as its devastated ranks break up.
Artillery fire shatters the Draconian Hussars as the second unit of Sappers blows the bridge ending the game.  The D'Argent Jagers scramble through the vineyards ahead of the Draconian Dragoons and hold out in the village until the rest of the D'Argent boarder guards can get organized, cross by the fords and drive the dragoons off.  The Draconian main body comes up latter that day and crosses except for the heavy baggage which must wait for a new bridge to be built.

Challenge Update # 9

As we enter the home stretch of the challenge I am please with my position.  This year I won't crack the top ten but should be comfortably in the top twenty.  I submitted two regiments of Imagi-Nation troops.
The First is the Haydenburg Regiment named for one of my reenacting mentors Jim Hayden.  Jim would be please to be commemorated with a miniature regiment.
The Grand Duchy's army also grew with Regiment Dixon named for another reenacting mentor of mine.  The Regiment will function as light/irregular infantry regiment something my friend Dwight excels at.
Finally I have been truly trounced in the 15mm side duel so a command stand an "observer form the Grand Duchy of D'Argent to some other army (exactly who's is not yet know.)

Honors of War: Meeting engament

Last Thursday Frank and met up for a game of Honors of War.  I ran the Grand Duchy of D'Argent and Frank had the Draconian Empire two Imagi-Nations.  We did a meeting where we both had two brigades arriving via one or more of the two roads we each wrote down where and when they were arriving numbering the roads 1 to 4 going clock wise around the table. The main road on the center was not eligible.  I chose to deploy in line while Frank is mostly in column.  Both sides wish to take and hold the center cross road.
My two cavalry brigades are of board leaving me with only my light cavalry who are under a dithering commander.  I also have an independent Cavalry unit the Cheveliers D'Argent.
Frank has a poor command roll for his cavalry but most of his men are stepping off nicely the New regiment Von Sheppard is leading the way with other Darconian units while their excellent artillery take the high ground.
Frank is pushing a head faster with his column but my own movement is going pretty well.
Then Franks light infantry come marching down form the flank my light cavalry try advancing against them but they are unable to catch them in column.  His light cavalry attempt to arrive by the opposite table but fail their command roll.
Franks artillery draws first blood hitting the Frotino Hussars.
Franks men push into the village.
My own cavalry arrive on road 1 (I made a conservative choice)
Franks slight troops close in and begin a fire fight with the Jagers D'Argent and Regiment l'Rock
Both sides
The Cheveliers decide the scummy light infantry of Draconia is unworthy of their steel and refuse to charge despite the presence of the Duke.
Franks Dragoons dismount to garrison the built up area.
The Darconian light cavalry arrives on my flank and my heavy guns on the hill are feeling nervus.
The Guard D'Argent turns to face the Draconian Light Cavalry as do the artillery.  Franks Dragoon unit with the light cavalry takes 3 hits from my heavy guns. The Fortino Hussars launch a charge at the Draconian light infantey..
They are driven off with high casualties
But the D'Argent cavalry is finialy coming in.
Frank launches a daring charge with his light cavalry unfortunately for him his dragoons charge a pair of ready artillery pieces and that unit disintegrates under the grape shot
His Hussars are able to charge the Guard and if they can go in will fight me at two to one odds. (note the second unit is not a flank attack with just squared them up like that for convenience) The Guardsmen of D'Argent how ever hold steady and roll a 5 for their closing fire on the first unit.  Hussars fall like wheat before the reaper...
It was a bold and daring move but it collapses before superior fire powers.
My artillery on the central road is less lucky they score only one hit and then the horsemen bead down on them
Regiment l'Rock moves left to colse the gap opened when my light cavalry broke and blasts a light infantry unit.
The Guard sees off the last of the light cavalry in savage hand to hand fighting.
Franks Cuirassiers throw back my gunners who just barely escape with their guns they then follow up and hit my light infantry unit.
Both infantry and cavalry and driven back my light infantry got 1 hit just enough to drive back the horsemen (though they took 4 hits so had to run them selves.
Frank sends in another charge against Regiment Marini to start the next turn.
On the left the Chevliers D'Argent encourages by the duke charge home and with the help of fire form Regiment l'Rock break the Draconian Light infantry formations clearing the road for the rest of D'Argents cavalry men.
In the Center Tascovics Brigade moves up to resort the center with marching fire.
l'Rock moves up to suport the flank of the Jagers.
The Chevileres D'Argent charge and rout a battered light infantry unit and then follow up charging the Grenadiers behind them.
Though unable to shoot the grenadiers give as good as they get
and both units fall back to lick their wounds.
Regiement Marini breaks for the rear but they are able to return the favor to the cavalry they face and good shooting by Regiment Tascovics see to the other cavalry unit.
At this point we had to go Frank still holds the down but I have had three units routed to his eight Frank declares me the winner but I do think that digging his men out of the village would have been a hard task.  A great game I need to Tweak both armies a little bit but that's not unusual when building from scratch.
