The Second Assault: Frankenthal, 1621

The second assault on the Frankenthal demi-lune begins  our lines are a little closer and more heavy guns have been brought up to support the attack. The first turn has mostly inconclusive firing though I do disorder a heavy gun on the wall
Turn two troops advance and cannon roar.
Turn three my Veteran German Tercio is in trouble.
Forward for Spain! Cordoba leads his Swordsmen forward...

 but cannot break in.

More men pile in.... but the results are the same.
Things are looking Grim at the end of turn 3

The desperate struggle continues.
The Spanish musketeers are destroyed by sortie from the fortress that takes them in the rear.
English Demi Lancers are stopped by German pikes but our Germans are unwilling to come to order.
I try to pull my men out... but another fight ensues and we win to everyone's surprise, but the fight continues.
At the end of turn 4 my attack is completely stalled...
My German Tercio is destroyed my army moral is wavering.
For Spain... but my dice which have been bad all night... prove terrible again... Cordoba goes down, and Tercio is demoralized. then enemy devastated  my men and my army breaks.  The Second Assault has failed and the siege continues.

We are using Arofan's rules While the Devil Rules with the computer assisted Siege mini campaign.

Flanders 1793

I had Comand of the French forces attempting to break the siege of Dunkirk.

The English artilery spars at long rang withoug much effect but then their cavalry charges across the Bridge.
We succesfuly throw buck the first charge but then a follow up charge destroys my Dragoons ...
and then over runs my horse battery before it can deploy.
Wtih a rosuing courus of Ca Ira a unit of levvies charges the emigie cavalry and scatters the cowardly monarchists.
Currasiers charge accross the bridge at the disored enemy dragoosn and drive them form the field.
Naturaly this causes the English horse artilery to turn and shoot into my cavalry...
My Currasiers go down but then my guns and infantry fire tinto his guns.
The Levies over rune the artilery and have regular French Infantry coming up in support the English army withdraws in good order.

Degsastan 603 AD Blood of Kings and Heroes

My Saxons forces are in a good defensive crouch waiting for the attack by the Scots

and the Scots are moving on both flanks
I do pretty well against the first charge...

Then comes another charge and then....
They bring Friends....

So I bring in some friends and we have a quite scrum going on the center...
the right flank is looking bad especially after some lucky javelin shooting
Hear comes the flank attack....
its Ugly but it could have ben worse... my archers get away as my infantry fight desperately
Sadly they don't last long...
But I get some revenge on the left
At the start of the 4th turn I am hard on point but in a dangerous situation and my opponent gets to go first.  So more flank charges are coming...
Still I manage to hold off the first attack...
and my camp is under threat...
My guard charges... and throw the attacker in to disorder and begin killing! (my enemy loses abase)

Unfortunately one of my center infantry is broken after my other Guard unit fails to move up.
Now they charge to avenge the fallen!
We slaughter the troops attacking the camp
My troops in the center Hold their ground and I win the game breaking my opponents army, 12 of 12 route point, my own army is hanging on with 4 out of 9 route points in dagger. Had Raedwalds embattled infantry be destroy the battle would have been a draw.

An Incident from the Roman-Seleucid War.

Arofan is working on a new game Blood of Gods & Heroes a modification of his Medieval game for the ancient period. The battle was on a narrow front.

I'm Commanding the Seleucids under Antiochus III Cavalry leads the way horse archers on one side

And Cataphracts on the other side

North of the river the battle seesawed back and forth. to the south my there was a quick light cavalry action... then they cleared the way for the Elephants.
Pike men vs Elephants... an ugly combination (and not to my advantage)

Fighting becomes general in the south Elephants struggling against pikes while Galatians and Romans fight in the muck of the swam.
to the North it goes better for me my slingers disorder the Roman allied Peltasts and then my peltasts charge hitting them hard but they hold for now.... My cavalry drives off the enemy cavalry north of the river.
To the south the elephants are broken my desperate attempt to save the Galatians with my cavalry doesn't come off and my cavalry is broken... but the Galatians held on pulling a unit of Romans into the fight.
This opened an opportunity for my Phalangites to fight Legions one on one.
Its an epic class... Phalangist, Iranian cavalry and Peltasts on one side against legions and light cavalry on the other  to the south I am trading space for time.
On Phalangites break but my side breaks one f the legions, the cavally and the Roman allied Hoplites ... I survived and won by thinnest of margins My enemies break point was 13 mine 14 (at the end with both had 13 rout points) Rome won't get Syria for a few more years anyway.
