Miniature Throwback Thursday (3): Guard Fancese

 Early readers of this blog may recall this image above the Masthead.

The Gardes Francaises the senior infantry regiment of the Royal Army of France.

 Here we have some newer photos for Throwback Thursday.  Close inspection shows an unfortunate pebbling from the poor primer I used.  I am not 100% sure when I painted these they were completed before launching this blog in late 2009 so I will guess they were painted in 2008 or early in 2009.

 Despite the low quality priming either because of humidity or the quality of the primer it self they cam out really well. I've always been pleased with the lace work since its no there on the miniature I had to paint it free hand.  My one regret is that I didn't copy and size the flags..

Rear shot showing the lace on the tails.  These are Old Glory 15s.  I wouldn't do much differently if I did the same unit today. Maybe a little more wash on the faces and gaiters. Also a better primer would probably help.

Miniature Throwback Thursday (2) Pulaski's Dragoons

Today I am Going WAY BACK! to my college days. These guys were painted in 1997 or 1998 (yes I am that old).

 These are Essex Figures I got a Napoleons one of my favorite game stores of all times.  It was located in Milwaukee(it closed many years ago now) where I went to college and the store ran an ad in the school news paper that read "6000 years of carnage all under one roof." It was awesome, only Hobby Bunker can compare for selection of historical figures.  These guys are meant to been Dragoons form Pulaski's Legion, I was new to 15mm in those day and it shows.  I had yet to learn the value of a good wash but give that I had only the advice of my then room mate Rob Burr and a few articles to go on for guidance they aren't bad.  The boots are gray because that was the color they were in the Osprey book and I had yet to learn to take Osprey color plates with a grain of salt.

The Flag is pure speculation on my part clearly the modern Polish flag was my inspiration.  I would still put these guys on the table today... though I might also strip them and re paint them, if I ever run out of projects, HA!

Miniature Throwback Thursday (1) Tomb King

A lot of people like to hid their old work I am going to showcase it.   I don't know how regular this feature will be but why not

This is a Games Workshop Tomb Kings figure Prince something or other from my early 2000s flirtation with a Tomb Kings army... this is about all that cam of it!

I went for really dirty, and I think I probably over did it. If I were doing it to day I would use a lighter hand on the dry brushing.

I am very pleased with the shield its a great looking design and I I think I painted it well.

He does mix fairly well with the new Bones Mummies so he may finally get some use.
