BillA's mysterious statue of Felstad

Bill Adcock was another of the Gents who faced off with me in the Frostgrave Side Challenge during last year's Winter Challenge.  Bill payed his debt for losing the side challenge to me in fine style with this great terrain piece.

 This "Eater Island" Statue is a great piece and it looks even cooler with all the snow(see what I did there?).

This will be a great piece for my next frostgrave table. Thank you very much Bill for this excellent terrain piece! Check out Bill's painting and gaming here.

Paul Smith: Frostgrave Side challenge

Paul this post is over due please accept my apologies. 

Paul was one of my opponents in the Frostgrave side challenge. I won the challenge which meant he owed me a piece of "scatter" terrain.  Paul paid up with a nice correction of bases, a few pieces that will make nice treasure markers or dressing for bases.  He also sent me two Goblin figures that will be great for Dragon Rampant or Frostgrave.

Finally we have a painted miniature a fine warrior nun.  I'm not sure if this is a prepainted figure that Paul enhanced with some washes and highlights or one he painted up.  Either way its a fine figure that will work well for Frostgrave.

Challenge entry Last Post Frostgrave soldiers, Treasure token and old school Ogre

This will be my last post of this challenge its been great fun again this year and I would like to thank Curt for running the event and thank Peter and the other "Minions" for their hard work

We have 4 more Frostgrave soldiers all made with Wargames factory and Frostgrave parts. On the left we have an archer and a ranger (the one holding the sword) two of my favorite soldier types because of their ability to shoot an move in the same turn. To the Right we have tow men-at-arms with hand weapons and shields.

I did two of the soldiers in paid just because it seemed the thing to do, I don't have any scots in Frostgtrave yes so why not. Green is a natural color for a ranger and I liked giving the swordsman a length of rope a very handy thing to have in a crumbling ruin.

Then we have the hobbit from the Fog on the Barrow downs set. With his crown and belt he makes a somewhat macabre treasure token for the game.

This last is an old Ral Partha Ogre my friend Mike gave me he'll do as a troll alongside his more modern Reaper compatriot.

I added the axe from my bits box I twas a pain drilling out the hand, I lost two bits doing it... but I think its worth the effort he look far better with a weapon.

Challenge Entry- - Frostgrave Great Worm

This is Figure is from Reaper and I really wanted one for my Frostgrave collection but its been sold out sine the game came out, especially as there is no official worm figure form Northstar but author Joe McCulloughn has said this is the figure he had in mind when he wrote the "worm hunt" scenario. I certainly don't want to mess with anything with that many teeth!

I went with blue because I felt it would pop on the table and added some snow on it head where it got stuck when it burst through the ground. I also went fairly heavy with the wash so it looks like dirt is clinging to it.

The figure comes with its own ground work, dirt and rock chunks were it burst from the ground I added snow to the ground to fit the setting.

For scale I have two 25mm Frostgrave soldiers.

The Challenge is Over

Here you can see a group shot of most of my painting from the challenge. The Frozen girls and the PSC Half tracks aren't here but every thin else is.

The massive addition to the Frosgrave army I built over the course of the challenge 697 points worth winning the Frosgrave side challenge by just over 100 points. 

10mm Renaissance soldiers and my Dragon Rampant army.  I also painted many soldiers for my friend Chirs Rett's monster hunt game at Huzzah!con. 

French troops for En Guarde! Pirates and modern Peruvian troops along with the Drunken Master. My final total of points 1703 Points bringing me in at 6th place out of a field of 75 (We had 88 entrants but 13 of them did not submit anything).  The challenge was great fun and I hope you enjoyed following along.

Challenge Entry: Two Frostgrave Soldiers

I'm Planning to use this fellow as a Frostgrave "knight" (Soldier with mail, shield and hand weapon) and I think he'll also find himself in games of Saga as a warlord. He's a Dark Sword figure from the George RR Martin range called Alfyn Crowkiller one of the wildlings form beyond the wall. I'm not a fan of the series (or I was but lost interest) but the figures are great and I have many of them.

He' has great detail on his face and I did the shield in colors that would match my Necromancer, I think he'll make a good leader for a unit of humans defending him either in Frostgrave or as part of a Dragon Rampant army.

The cloak looks like it will keep him very warm in Frostgrave and its environs. He's a very good 28mm figure (actually he might be a 30 or 32mm scale figure but they call him 28mm so I will take Dark Sword at its word)

This is another figure form the same line a character called Yegrit (?) also a wilding. I'm planning to use her as part of a all female war band for the game I am running at Huzzah!Con.

The figure has a great in action pose I feel like she just fire on the run and is skidding to a halt or maybe scrambling backward to stay out of hand weapon range

These are two nice additions to the Warband from a great line of minatures. 

Challenge Entry: Reaper Oger.

OK this guy doesn't really fit Frostgrave, as they don't have actual oger yet, though with the "Into the Breeding Pits" supplement we'll get Gnolls so maybe ogres will show up some time too. 

For now he'll proxy in as a second Ice troll if I need one. I love the face on his club... that must have come from some strange tree. 

Again lots of good detail on this harness and belt. The tattoo or ritual scar on his shoulder is one of my favorite bits.

Challenge Entry: 6 Men-at-Arms for Frostgrave and Dragon Rampant

Here we have some kit bashed Men-at-arms six in all. Bodies, heads, and shield are Wargames Factory. 

The arms and weapons are from Fire forge and they went well together. 

I'm imagining these guys as a band of mercenaries that hire themselves out to wizards venturing into Frosgrave. I came up with the emblem on the shield, a blue axe head or maybe and arrow head. 

They will also make a great a unit of soldiers for Dragon Rampant, six is just enough for an elite foot unit.

Challenge Entry: Crow Master

This figure is from Blacktree miniatures and I plan to use him as "Crow Master" a type of soldier that trains the Blood Crows of Frostgrave. The Figures is called Felix, Wood Elf Falconer, I think a falconer or hawk makes more sense so I went that way.  I added the sword from my bits box as he had no weapon. 

I'm not sure about the cloak but I tried to make him and his red-tailed hawk match after a fashion.

Challenge Entry: Frost Giant by Reaper

A Frost Giant, these big badies are rare in Frostgrave but if you run into one you’re going to have a bad day. 

This is Reapers Stone Giant and it comes in three pieces that got together quite well. 

He has a lot of great detail and the "Bones" material is excellent for figures like this since he would take a lot of lead to make.

Challenge Entry: Giant rats for Frostgrave

I only had one post on Monday for the challenge but I am breaking it up for this page 

First up we have six giant Rats from Reaper Miniatures. 

I did half of these in gray and half in brown. Rats are a common problem in Frostgrave they are aggressive and nasty. 

They have gown large on the corpses of adventures and the undead themselves.

Challenge Entry: Monster, Thug and Ice Toads

 

The last monster for the Monster Hunt game I'm not sure what this guy is supposed to be it some sort of dragon kin. It vaguely reminds me Draconians form the Dragonlance Chronicles but if so its too big I didn't see the nose ring until I took the picture I will have to touch it up

 

The sword is a backup to the mace head and chain making me think he wants prisoners... perhaps to eat?

 

I put him next to this figure a kit bashed thug frostgrave a 28mm minatures for scale purposes

He has a body and head form Wargames Factory and hands from the Frosgrave cultist kit, as is his axe

 

The Bag on the belt is also form the frostgrave set.

He's intended as Thug the most basic type of Melee soldier in Frosgrave a hand weapon but no shield or other armor.

 

Finally two Ice Toads form Reaper... OK technically they look more like frogs but the will work for Ice Toads and OK technically Ice Toads aren't intelligent and these guys, clearly, are but that just makes them cooler and more dangerous

I based these on the look of tropical poison arrow frogs since I thought it would look cool.

Challenge entry: 3 Frosgrave Crossbowmen

 

My last entry for Monday three kit bashed crossbowmen for Frosgrave. They have Wargames factory bodies, arms and crossbows form the Cultist box from Frosgrave. The Center has a Frosgrave head the the others have heads from Wargames factory

 

The extras, quiver, bags and daggers are from the Frograve soldier spruce or Cultist spruce.
