The other side of the Great Re-basing project

From time to time you guys have seen me removing troops from the 2x2 inch bases AJ made for me a few years ago. I have called this the "Great Re-basing Project" You may have wondered what I was doing with them.  Well the other day I was at hobby bunker and found some 2x1 inch metal bases and I knew what to do.

Combining the two bases and I have a great sabot base to use for Volley and Bayonet games.

I have been putting magnates on my Longstreet figures so I now have a growing Civil War army that can be a brigade for Longstreet or and Army Corps (or even an army) for Volley and Bayonet. The Hood's Texas Brigade has become Hood's Division.

As you can see the figures will stand a little high but the bases are big enough you have plenty of space to grab the base (or push it with a ruler or pointer stick on a large table) so people won't handle the figures directly.

 As you can see I made sure the Slots at the back remained clear so unit information can be written on a label and attached to the unit to make life easy in a game.

Great Re-basing Project of 2013 (11) Anglo-Hanoverian Guards

 This project have been on the back burner because of Longstreet these were re-based a few weeks ago...

 They sat around waiting for me to finish the bases.  Troops are a mix of Hanoverian guard dragoons, British Dragoon Guards and Scott's Dragoons (Scott's Grays)

 Basing for V&B left me with a lot of units represented by two-three figures mixed with other units to form cavalry brigades. I like the look as cavalry units often were often under-strength or had squadrons detached.

Seven units of French Cavalry rebased for Maurice and Black Powder.  The Fine movement trays were made by AJ

Bet you guys thought I was done with this but no I just took a break.

 First up are some very old figures of mine.  They are Prussian/Hessian dragoons they are no particular regiment...

 In fact there are 4 different uniforms. It makes a good unit to represent a mixed brigade which you frequently see in British/Hanoverian armies.

 Speaking of Hanover here is a unit of Hanoverian Reuter Regiment 2b

 Reuter is the Hanoverian heavy horse they wear white uniforms like Austrian and Prussian Cuirassiers but do not wear an armored breast plate.

Great Rebasing Project of 2013 (8) Prussian Cavalry

 A mix unit of Prussian Dragoons with representatives of the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 10th dragoons. My one gripe with old Glory15s Dragoons is too may musicians, two trumpeters and one drummer fill out this unit.

Another mixed unit this time Cuirassiers with members of the 1st, 3rd 7th, 8th, and 12th regiments. Both units were painted to be Prussian contingents to the British Army but often as not served with my Prussian forces

 The 2nd Cuirassier Regiment a favorite of mine because of their yellow (I used more of Buff color but some images show a very bright yellow) coats.

 The yellow and read make a striking contrast and realy stand out

The 5th Cuirassier regiment Sky Blue and White also make a sharp appearance.  4 to a unit does make the like look a little thin, maybe as paint time allows I may expand these two units too 6 or 8 figures. 

Great Rebasing Project of 2013 (7)

 This is a vary generic Unit of German Cuirassiers with no flag bearer they can serve in Prussian, Reich, Austrian or even Russian armies. I painted these a long long time ago when I was in school at Marquette University.

 It may be time to hit them with some wash and maybe touch up a detail or two but they will serve for now.

 This rather gruesome figure was once part of the Austrian unit shown in the previous post.

Since both Maurice and Black Powder use casualty markers he has been plucked from his unit to serve in that fashion. I always though he rather threw off the unit in the old days an looks much better on his own as a casualty marker

Great Rebasing Project of 2013 (6) Imperial Cavalry (2)

 Nothing too fancy here just some Austrian Cuirassiers, actually they could work for almost any German state at least until I ad a flag.

 This unit was a little short on men but one man per stand except for the command stand isn't terrible.

 A fuller set of Austrian Cuirassiers these are Friecorps15s Figures I got as a test.  I actually like the figures a lot except for two things.

1) the horse legs are very thin and can bend easily if not handled with care. 2) the flag staff has to be glued into the soldiers hand and does not fit well.

Great Rebasing Project of 2013 (5) Imperial Cavalry (1)

These are regiments of cavalry using Austrian or Riech Army uniforms. I had some odd numbers to work with so bit of mixing and matching was done.  There are several more units of this sort to go.  Remember these were painted some time ago and are not up to my current standard but do look good on the table.

Kurfurstin Lieb-Dragoon Regiment of Platz a small but fairly wealthy German principality.  They were of the same family as the Bavarians

These Cuirassiers are also a Platz regiment the Oberrheinische Kreiseskadron I liked them because they are a break from the white and red of most German Cuirassiers.  They suffered a bit from the humidity back when I gave them top coat but still look acceptable on the game table.

I am especially looking forward to seeing this guy in skirmish games.  I wish more cavalry were shown using pistols, true its not exactly historical but it always looks cool.

 Two units of KKR Hohenzollern an collection of troopers form various German states.

 My Riech Army flag set had two flags for this unit I do not know which is correct

As this regiment was made up of many small contingents (some a few as two men) I think the two units have painted using both flags work well for generic German cavalry.  So more cavalry is ready for Maurice or Black powder. The end of this project is a fair way off yet still more Germans and I have not even touched the French and English yet!

The Great Rebasing Project of 2013 (4) Austrian Cavalry

 Austrian Cuirassiers Nothing fancy here though the sharp eyed can see they were once two different units one with Cuirass exposed and the other wearing them under their coats. All of these were painted in 2010 or so.

 The Jung-Modena Dragoons nominally from one of Austria's Italian Possessions

Prinz Savoyan Dragoons the regiment carries the name of Austrian most Famous General the great Prinze Eugune of Savoy

 One of my favorite dragoon figures with Pistol at the ready.

Still hard at work converting basing from V&B to Maurice and Black Powder.

 First up some Hessian Dragoons I was a bit leery of mounting troops one to a stand but with only five figures in this case it seemed the best option.

 The flag actually a Hanoverian dragoon flag but I only have a few a few option and it does not look too out of place.

 Two more Highlanders not wanting to waist figures I did two units that are a little thinner on the figures rather than crowding the bases or having a short unit.

 These are some of the best Plaid I ever did I am proud to say.

 Some of Robert Burr's work is in these too I mixed figures so hopefully the difference in style will not stand out as it would if his were all inone unit.
